Garland Information

Garland Texas was formed from two neighboring towns.  In 1850 settlers began arriving in the area we know as Garland today.  They were settling the area but there was not township yet.  In 1874 two communities sprung up, Embree, names after physician K.H. Embree and Duck Creek, named after the local creek bearing the same name.  The two communities fought over the growing area as they both were close to the Santa Fe Railroad depot.  Eventually a local Dallas County Judge, Thomas A. Nash had the post office moved between the two towns.  the new location was named Garland after the Attorney General Augustus Hill Garland.
